Being a righteous witness
“...(in absolute Science) Soul, or God, is the only truth-giver to man. Not personal intercommunion but divine law is the communicator of truth, health, and harmony to earth and humanity.” — Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, page 72
Whatever we say that is true and whatever we are led to do that promotes health and harmony, we must know originates not with us, but with God. And if what we hear or read, or if what we would say is not of God, let us hold our peace and know that “Nothing unworthy of perpetuity should be transmitted to [anyone at all].” — Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, page 61
This is why we must...
“Watch, and pray daily that evil suggestions, in whatever guise, take no root in your thought nor bear fruit.” — Miscellany, by Mary Baker Eddy, page 128
The doubts and fears of mortal mind consistently declare that chance and chaos are real, that human knowledge is the only answer and the only healer, while stating that the very act of seeking anything other than material means and ways to guide, guard, or govern is dangerous, unintelligent, and proof of how unloving we are.
Yet Christian Science assures us that Truth, Life, and Love created us perfect, and provides the means for us to prove this fact to ourselves, so we must “Take heed that no man [or social media post, news broadcast, bodily ache, or claim of animal magnetism] deceive [us].” (Matthew 24:4) If we fail in that, and allow ourselves to be deceived, we risk becoming the voice of error, even...
“...the Babylonish woman ... [which] would enter even the church, — the body of Christ, Truth; and, retaining the heart of the harlot and the purpose of the destroying angel, would pour wormwood into the waters — the disturbed human mind — to drown the strong swimmer struggling for the shore, — aiming for Truth, — and if possible, to poison such as drink of the living water.” — Miscellany, by Mary Baker Eddy, page 125
Therefore, every attempt to instill fear or doubt within us must be handled right away. We must never pass those fears or doubts along to our fellow beings, or to anyone at all, but rather make use of the statements of Truth we have learned and prove those fears and doubts powerless. To do otherwise is to “raise a false report” and “to be an unrighteous witness” (Exodus 23:1) against Truth. Let us instead work to realize the following:
“Happy are the people whose God is All-in-all, who ask only to be judged according to their works, who live to love. We thank the Giver of all good for the marvellous speed of the chariot-wheels of Truth and for the steadfast, calm coherence in the ranks of Christian Science.” — Miscellany, by Mary Baker Eddy, page 127
